§ 04Guides

Domain, hosting and e-mail

To work, every website needs three elements: a name (the domain), a place on a server (hosting) and, usually, e-mail addresses on the same name. This guide explains what they are, how to choose them and what must remain under your control.

In brief

The domain is the website's address (for example, company.ro) and is registered in your company's name; hosting is the server the website runs on: at Temyro, on our server, monthly or yearly, or on an account of your own. We agree them together, in the quote. Setting them up, together with e-mail and the SSL certificate, is included in every Temyro package.

01The domain: the website's name

The domain is the address at which the website can be found. .ro domains are administered by RoTLD (the National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics – ICI Bucharest) and are registered through its accredited registrars; since 2018 an annual maintenance fee has applied.

When choosing the name:

  • prefer a short name that is easy to say and spell, without diacritics;
  • use a hyphen only if it makes the name easier to read;
  • choose .ro for clients in Romania and .com or the relevant country extension for foreign markets;
  • check that the name does not infringe a registered trademark.

02Hosting: where the website lives

Hosting is the server that delivers the pages to visitors. For a company website, what matters is:

  • a data centre in the European Union, which also helps with GDPR compliance;
  • current versions of the languages the website uses (for example, PHP);
  • automatic backups;
  • a free SSL certificate, for the "https" address;
  • the renewal price, not only the first-year offer.

At Temyro, hosting can be on our own server, monthly or yearly, with everything above taken care of by us, or on an account of your own; we agree it together, in the quote.

03E-mail on your domain

An address such as name@company.ro inspires more trust than a free one and remains the company's, regardless of staff changes. Mailboxes are usually included in the hosting plan.

To keep messages out of the spam folder, the domain needs three authentication records: SPF (which servers may send on the domain's behalf), DKIM (the message signature) and DMARC (what happens to messages that fail the check). We set them up at every launch.

04In whose name they are registered

The domain and the hosting account must be in your company's name (or your own name, for an individual). If they are registered in the name of whoever built the website, moving or renewing them depends on that person.

At Temyro, the domain is registered in the client's name, and we only receive access for setup and, on request, for maintenance.

05Moving an existing website

Moving to another host is done without visible interruptions, in the following order:

  1. a full backup of the website, the database and the e-mails;
  2. installation on the new server and testing at a temporary address;
  3. moving the mailboxes;
  4. changing the domain's DNS records;
  5. a final check: pages, forms, SSL certificate, e-mail.

The moving service costs 99 lei.

§ 07Frequently asked questions

Questions on this topic

Cannot find the answer? See all frequently asked questions or write to us.

01

Can I keep the domain I already have?

Yes. The domain remains yours; we only change the DNS records so that it points to the new website. Important old addresses are redirected to the new pages, so you do not lose your Google rankings.

02

Do I need separate hosting for e-mail?

Usually not: hosting plans include mailboxes. For larger teams or special needs (large storage, office applications), a separate e-mail service can be used on the same domain.

03

What happens if I forget to renew the domain?

The website and e-mail stop working, and after a grace period the domain can be registered by someone else. Turn on automatic renewal and keep the e-mail address in your registrar account up to date.
